Band 2–4 team within clinical education: Supporting learners to apply patient-centred skills and professional behaviours

The band 2–4 workstream is a dedicated team within clinical education at 半岛体育 Health NHS Foundation Trust, focused on developing and supporting healthcare support workers (HCSWs) across all healthcare professions, including nursing, allied health professionals (AHPs), maternity and community services

This workstream ensures that HCSWs have access to tailored development opportunities, enabling them to develop their skills, advance their careers, and deliver high-quality care to patients.

The band 2-4 workstream supports all healthcare support workers, including: 

  • Health care assistants (HCAs) 

  • Therapy assistants (AHP support staff) 

  • Maternity care assistants (MCAs) 

  • Mental health care assistants 

  • Any band 2-4 unregistered staff contributing to patient care across the trust.  

It consists of multi-professional initiatives that recognises the critical contributions of HCSWs in various healthcare settings, from wards and clinics to therapy departments and the community.  

HCSWs are vital to the delivery of compassionate, safe and effective patient care. By investing in their development, the band 2-4 team aims to: 

  • Improve patient outcomes: Provides HCSWs with enhanced skills and builds confidence and competence.  

  • Promote retention: Creates clear career pathways and provides ongoing support. 

  • Strengthens teams: Promotes multi-professional collaboration and resilience.  

  • Promotes wellbeing: To provide tools to maintain mental health and build resilience.  

The team provides a range of structured opportunities and initiatives designed to support HCSWs throughout their careers including a wide range of study days and trainings including a bespoke induction programme.
