Research and innovation are at the heart of patient care. Today鈥檚 research paves the way to the improved healthcare of tomorrow.

半岛体育 Health NHS Foundation Trust (FHFT) supports a broad range of clinical research, conducting studies and trials at our hospital sites.

Every day, FHFT staff perform hundreds of medical procedures. Each treatment, assessment or operation has its roots in research. Our investment in research helps ensure we can face future healthcare challenges.

We are committed to providing patients and staff with opportunities to be part of research and innovation. We hope this will lead to earlier detection and treatment of disease, better treatments to prolong life and a better quality of life for all.

We are an active partner of the South Central Regional Research Delivery Network (RRDN), assisting NIHR Research Delivery Network portfolio trials within the Trust.

The FHFT Research and Innovation team:

  • Reviews and approves all research projects carried out in our hospitals.
  • Sets up and manages commercial and non-commercial clinical trials.
  • Co-ordinates governance, monitoring and auditing of research activity in our hospitals.
  • Supports and facilitates staff training and development in research skills.
  • Supports and manages intellectual property on behalf of the Trust.
  • Provides support and advice to staff on all matters relating to research and development.

Our studies address a range of major healthcare issues, such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes, as well as research into less common conditions. We have dedicated clinical trials pharmacists at both sites and work closely with support services, such as pathology and radiology.

Useful information

The Research and Innovation team is funded by the NIHR, and through income from non-commercial and commercial research studies.

We are also grateful for charitable donations. The Breast Research And Support (BRAs) charity at 半岛体育 Park Hospital have raised £90,000 to support a breast cancer research nurse.

The research studies themselves are usually funded by the NIHR, Medical Research Council, Wellcome Trust, other charities, national societies or industry (for example, a pharmaceutical company or medical device manufacturer).

Your research study team should be in touch with you once they have published their findings. This can often be a few years after you will have been recruited to a study.

It is also worth searching the internet for the research study website. Failing that, get in touch with us – fhft.research-innovation@nhs.net

The NIHR Research Delivery Network supports delivery of high-quality research that enables the best care for our population. Replacing the previous Clinical Research Network, the RDN is formed of 12 Regional Research Delivery Networks operating as one organisation across England, providing a shared vision and purpose. The RDN supports research sites with recruitment resources, tools to support research delivery, analysis and advice, and workforce development.
