Heatherwood Hospital opened in March 2022 and is a centre of excellence for non-emergency care specialising in planned care services and diagnostic facilities.
The hospital is accredited with GIRFT (Getting It Right First Time) 'surgical elective hub’ status as part of a national scheme to ensure the highest standards in clinical and operational practice. These hubs are designed to provide patients with quicker access to diagnosis and treatment by focusing mainly on ‘high volume low complexity’ surgery in areas such as ophthalmology, general surgery, orthopaedics (including spinal surgery), gynaecology and urology.
Outpatient services at the hospital include cardiology, dermatology, ENT, gynaecology, orthopaedics, plastics and urology. These are supported by endoscopy, physiotherapy, phlebotomy and radiology (CT, mammography, MRI, x-ray and ultrasound).
Radiology and endoscopy are open 8am - 8pm, 7 days a week.
Surgical hubs such as Heatherwood are an important part of plans to increase surgical capacity and reduce the time patients wait for some of the most common procedures.
