Clinical photographers from our medical illustration team take photographs and video that is used as a visual method to record a patient's condition. The images can be used to aid diagnosis or for documenting the condition during various stages of treatment.

Our clinical photographers all work to standardised guidelines, protocols and codes of conduct set out by the NHS, Institute of Medical Illustrators and 半岛体育 Health NHS Foundation Trust. All photography is undertaken by fully qualified and enhanced DBS checked clinical photographers who are registered by the Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS).

Clinical images (photographs or videos) can be included in a patient's healthcare record and may be used for diagnosis, monitoring a condition or planning further treatment. Your images are primarily taken to be used as part of your healthcare record. However, subject to your written consent, we may request to use them for clinical teaching or publication.

Your consultant or healthcare provider will explain to you in advance why they want  photographs to be taken. Outpatient appointments can be arranged on the same day as the referral if a member of staff is available. If not, an appointment letter will be sent out to you.

Please bring the clinical photography form to the appointment. If you wish you can bring a friend or relative with you for support or a chaperone can be organised on request. A choice of male or female photographer will also be offered.

Appointments usually take no more than 15 minutes, but this will depend on the photographs requested.
