Clinical librarian services

Clinical librarians work in partnership with clinical and non-clinical staff to provide information to support patient care, service delivery, and quality improvement. They help ensure that questions arising in clinical encounters are answered on the basis of good-quality, reliable evidence. They also assist in the development of clinical guidelines, policies and procedures.

The role of the clinical librarian is well-established within the NHS, and a mixed methods study on the impact of their work concluded that “clinical librarian services are beneficial to NHS trusts and impact on the use of evidence-based health care, and assist in decision-making surrounding patient safety, quality of care and efficiency” ()
