ANNUAL FUNDRAISER
PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE

How the program began and evolved: Litchfield County Board of REALTORS®, Inc. Public Relations Committee coordinates an Annual Fundraiser which supports charitable organizations within the community; proceeds are spilt on a rotating basis between two organizations chosen from a list of seven approved by our Board of Directors.  The seven organizations include F.I.S.H, Friendly Hands Food Bank, Salvation Army, Thomaston Food Pantry, Torrington Area Youth Services, Torrington Community Soup Kitchen and Winchester Emergency Shelter.

For many years the Annual Fundraiser proceeds were generated from ticket sales to various social events such as a Hypnosis Dinner Show, a Comedy Dinner Show, a Dinner Dance, etc.  Some of the drawbacks of event style fundraisers include the preparation time it takes to design and coordinate the fundraiser, dependency on ticket sales and most importantly, the organizations receive the proceeds after the costs associated with the event are deducted, thereby reducing the amount of money each charity receives.    

To better serve the community in 2005 the Public Relations Committee revaluated the structure of their Annual Fundraiser and after many hours of meetings and event proposals, the Committee’s focus ultimately centered on its original mission: To bring together members of Litchfield County Board of REALTORS®, Inc., its affiliates, the public and local businesses in a campaign to support the humanitarian interests of worthy organizations in our community.

To that end they decided to send contribution requests to our members and local businesses by mail, thereby foregoing an actual event, and to purchase space in a local newspaper as a way of bringing attention to these charitable organizations and a means by which to recognize individual and company contributors. 

The Annual Fundraiser's new format proved to be very successful, therefore the Public Relations Committee has continued to use a mailing campaign to ask for contributions, ensuring these deserving charity organizations receive the maximum amounts of proceeds!
